Here's the deal, Opponauts; you get to pick one line of cars and you get one of each. You can't pick a brand, but a model and of that model you get one of each generation. For example, if you're a truck nut, you could pick the Ford F-150 and walk away with what, like twelve trucks. Or Camaro, or Skyline or whatever. What'll you pick?

Do all mid engine V8 Ferraris count as the Dino?

Or are they disqualified because they are not all called the Dino (even though that's what they are)?

If Skyline = GTR and both of those are allowed then I think it's fair to consider all the Dino successors the same model.

I always wanted all the 911 because you know, 911, not a bad deal at all if I had one of each, but not the most imaginative either in my opinion.

I'd also consider all of the Mercedes SLs. The entire line of all the Mustangs are also a great thought, but I'm not the biggest fan of Mustangs as I am of SLs and 911s.

I mean, if I got just one of every 911 last year, I'd already have like 20.

I kind of meant to include a prompt to post pictures by way of saying that you get to pick which edition/trim car within the generation you'd take.

I assume we're talking about nameplates and not differently named successor cars (e.g. would the Cruze include the Cobalt, Cavalier, Monza, and Vega before it)?

I'll assume no. So I'll pick the 1927-74 Nash/Rambler/AMC Ambassador.

Here's the first generation, a 1928 example:

Or I could just go for the Ferrari GTO and get a 250 and a 330, and after selling them have enough money to buy a small mansion, a fleet of great cars and never have to work again.

Yeah, GTO.

Third Generation: 1986 Ford Mustang SVO

Fourth Generation: 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R

I would probably go for the Porsche 911 - i don't really get why no one has done that yet. And to make it fun, i would go for the most basic version: NA RWD manual Coupe (as in: C2) from every generation. Yes, i would love that.

However, a more interesting and less linear project would be the Peugeot 40x cars.

401 - 1934

402 - 1935

403 - 1955

404 - 1960

405 - 1987

406 - 1995

407 - 2004

408: a Chinese-only abomination from 2010, that is basically a sedan 308, and as such, isn't a true 40x car. But as this whoring idea represents 2010 very well, it has a place at this table.

A collection to truly bridge automotive evolution.

I don't think the research would take too long. I would only need about 20 minutes tops to make sure I got it right. Here is the answer off the top of my head without any research:

911 Classic: Carrera RS 2.7

964: Carrera RS

963: Carrera RS

996: GT3 RS

997: GT3 RS 4.0

991: GT3 RS (once the RS comes out)

As you can see it's pretty simple for me. I gusta the best N/A models so I would just take the best RS of each generation :)

I love your username!

I was wondering if I could have more than one classic 911.

Opinions are varied on whether all pre 964 cars are just one generation or not.

Some Porsche enthusiasts say yes, some say no.

One argument for yes is the chassis is the same on all, correct?

My old man has a 82 SC and just picked up a 69 911T roller. I inspected the underneath of both and they look really similar to my eye

Thanks!

I don't have too much knowledge, but I know they did change the length of the wheelbase in 1969, and there were at least three transmissions used (901, 915 and G50).

I feel like that qualifies, but I'm also just greedy and want more Porsches!

Good luck getting the roller running! A family up the street from my parents seems to restore old Porsches as a hobby. They DD a 997 and a Cayenne, and I've seen several 356s and classic 911s there, in various stages of repair.

The old man is becoming like your parent's neighbor. He is always looking for deals on classic Porsches to restore. He has restored classic Mercs too but Porsches are his favorite. They are less effort to restore cause they are so small and simple.

Mine differs just a little. :o)

Classic 911s: Carrera RS 3.0

964: Carrera 3.8 RS

993: GT2

996: GT3 RS

997: GT3 RS 4.0

991: Cup Car

I just remembered that Porsche's naming structure has never made sense. GT- and RS seem to be fairly standard up until now, but the rest of it's a mess. "Carrera" is just a pretty word they like to attach to anything and everything. Well, then. Carry on. Oh, and produce something worth drooling after again as a street car.

I would be lying if I said I never spun on the track

I haven't tracked any of my cars yet. Last time I tracked was in an 80s Celica turbo. I spun that puppy. The ancient AWD didn't behave like I expected

Awesome story! I too turned my nose up at almost all american cars until a friend handed me the keys to his redfire red sn95 GT with saleen wheels and an offroad exhaust. I blasted it down a winding river road and it was then I realized that I needed a v8 in my life. I began window shopping mustangs, mainly sn95s with the hopes of finding one for cheap, that is, around 8 grand. I could borrow that from my dad and pay him off while still in school. I happened across an 07 GT for what seemed like a steal since it had less than 50k kilometers on the clock and selling for 14 grand. I convinced my dad to go to the Kia dealership (of all places) to check it out. We test drove it and I'm sure we made the salesman's day because there was no hiding our excitement. My dad, God bless him, let me put the car on his line of credit the next day. What made the car an awesome find wasn't just the low mileage but the fact that it was cammed, had big wheels with wide rubber, lowering springs, CAI, and axlebacks. I took off the cam covers later to ID the cams and found out they're called ford racing hot rod cams; and boy let me tell you, they're the bomb! Sitting in it while it shakes at idle is my personal happy place. Dropping it into second with the gas mashed is my nirvana.

I've been indoctrinated to the cult of the horse and while I have favorite cars from every genre, Mustangs will always be special for reasons I'm sure you're well aware of. She's currently paid off and sitting in my garage waiting for spring and an MGW shifter. Here's a pic. Also I love em in black and love those v6 halibrand-inspired wheels so yours gets two thumbs and another appendage way up.

I work for a Lexus dealer and the first time I saw the wagon I didn't like it, but it has grown on me. It's a pretty decent shape, I saw one with an aftermarket valence package that looked super sick. I wish they made a wagon for the new '14s

I like to think of a sexy wagon more like a beautiful woman that can physically help me do the stuff I need doing without worrying if she's gonna' break a nail.

If you pick the GTO, that really means you have three very distinct cars:

Kinja'd!!!

250 GTO.

Kinja'd!!!

288 GTO.

Kinja'd!!!

599 GTO.

You have a great point. I completely forgot about the later two iterations of the GTO. But you've left off the 330.

The 330 gets grouped in with the Type 64 - a variation of that first generation. Same body, same chassis, 33% more displacement, awkward hood bulge. feel free to select that as your early-1960s preference.

Question is whether one of the GTO Evoluziones also counts.

Kinja'd!!!

At which point you might as well pick an F40, and then we get into the whole debate about whether the rest of the Ferrari hypercar family is in this same lineage.

Waiting on the judges there, I guess.

Just re-read the post and I stand corrected. I was thinking I could get an one of each different version of that car built. Being greedy.
